KBRN, Batam: The Riau Islands Quarantine Office, through its Batu Ampar Service Post and Hang Nadim Airport Service Unit, has once again facilitated the export of nutmeg, one of the region’s key agricultural commodities.
A total of 26 tons of nutmeg, valued at IDR 1.4 billion (approximately USD 84,433), was officially shipped to China via Batu Ampar Port in Batam on Sunday, September 21, 2025.
Before export, the nutmeg underwent a mandatory quarantine process. Officers from the Riau Islands Quarantine Office conducted thorough document verification, physical inspections, and sample testing to ensure the shipment was free from quarantine plant pests.
Once the nutmeg was declared healthy and pest-free, a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) was issued, an essential document required for international agricultural exports.
The Acting Head of the Hang Nadim Airport Service Unit emphasized that the quarantine office’s role in facilitating exports reflects its commitment to maintaining product quality while expanding market access for regional commodities.
“Quarantine ensures that every product leaving the Riau Islands is safe, high-quality, and compliant with the standards of the destination country. This guarantees acceptance in global markets and allows regional agricultural products to contribute greater value to the local economy,” the acting head said.
