Indonesia’s plantation commodity export performance again showed a positive trend in early 2026. Through PTPN IV PalmCo, more than 50 tons of Arabica coffee from the Java Coffee Estate (JCE) Ijen, Bondowoso, East Java, successfully penetrated global markets, namely the United Kingdom and the United States.
According to collected data, exports to the United Kingdom dominated, with 36 tons of green beans worth over USD 280,000, or nearly IDR 5 billion. Meanwhile, shipments to the United States reached 19.2 tons, valued at approximately USD 151,000. The total value of export transactions between the two countries exceeded IDR 7 billion.
PTPN IV PalmCo President Director, Jatmiko K. Santosa, stated that this achievement is a strong indicator of the increasing competitiveness of Indonesian coffee in the global specialty coffee market.
“This positive performance in early 2026 is the result of the transformation we have undertaken. We are not only pursuing volume, but also building a high-value-added and globally competitive coffee business ecosystem,” said Jatmiko.
According to him, penetration into developed markets like the UK and the United States demonstrates that the quality of Ijen-Bondowoso Arabica coffee is capable of meeting the stringent standards of the international market.
He added that this achievement also strengthens Bondowoso’s position as one of the world’s leading coffee centers.
“This success also reinforces Bondowoso’s reputation as the ‘Republic of Coffee.’ We will continue to strengthen synergies with the local government so that these exports also have a direct impact on the local economy,” he added.
Behind these export achievements, PTPN IV PalmCo is also undertaking serious improvements in the upstream sector through a replanting program.
Java Coffee Estate Manager, Hastudy Yunarko, explained that replanting is key to maintaining coffee productivity and quality in the long term.
“This program aims to replace aging plants with certified superior seeds. This is a strategic investment to increase yields while maintaining the consistent taste of Ijen-Bondowoso Arabica,” he explained.
Furthermore, the company is strengthening sustainable agricultural practices, including the implementation of Good Agricultural Practices (GAP), improving product traceability, and modernizing post-harvest facilities.
“Global market demand today is not only about taste, but also about sustainability and production transparency. That’s what we’re continuously improving,” he said.
Hastudy is optimistic that with a combination of upstream and downstream strengthening, JCE coffee exports will continue to increase and reach new markets in various countries.
“This shipment of more than 55 tons is the first step. Going forward, we are optimistic about expanding our market to other potential countries,” he concluded.
