Indonesia’s Liberica Coffee Export 2025

Indonesia's Liberica Coffee Export

Lahat – The Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin), through the South Sumatra Animal, Fish, and Plant Quarantine Center (South Sumatra Quarantine), released 18.5 tons of Liberica coffee from South Sumatra for export to Malaysia on Monday (11/10). The official release was carried out by the Regent of Lahat, Bursah Zarnubi, marked by the handover of a Phytosanitary Certificate (PC) by the Head of South Sumatra Quarantine, Sri Endah Ekandari. This Phytosanitary Certificate is proof that the commodity has met all the plant health requirements of the destination country.

The exported Liberica coffee comes from four leading coffee-producing centers in South Sumatra: Jarai, Kikim, and Tanjung Sirih in Lahat Regency, and Semendo in Muara Enim Regency. Prior to shipment, all coffee beans undergo physical inspection and laboratory testing to ensure they are free from Quarantine Plant Pest Organisms (OPTK) and meet the requirements of the destination country.

The Head of Quarantine for South Sumatra, Sri Endah Ekandari, stated that export certification demonstrates the Quarantine’s role in maintaining biosecurity while supporting the smooth flow of international trade.

“Quarantine ensures that every exported commodity is free from OPTK and meets the requirements of the destination country. The certificates we issue guarantee that the product is safe, healthy, and suitable for acceptance in the global market,” she said.

Sri Endah further emphasized that the South Sumatra Quarantine Agency is committed to providing fast, precise, and accurate services to businesses. “We not only conduct inspections, but also assist exporters to ensure the process runs efficiently and according to procedures. Synergy between businesses, local governments, and the Quarantine Agency is key to successful, competitive exports,” she added.

This coffee export activity demonstrates South Sumatra’s immense potential as a region producing superior agricultural commodities in demand on the global market. With maintained quality and the support of a trusted certification system, Liberica coffee from South Sumatra is expected to expand its market share and increase the region’s economic value.

Lahat Regent Bursah Zarnubi hopes this export will improve farmers’ welfare. The current exports indicate that Lahat has begun to enter the global market and is gaining recognition.

Through this export activity, the South Sumatra Quarantine Agency affirms its role as a vanguard in protecting biological resources, facilitating trade, and strengthening the competitiveness of national exports from the South Sumatra region.
