Indonesia’s Arabica Coffee Export 2025

Indonesia's Arabica Coffee Export

Ngada, NTT – Fifteen tons of Bajawa Arabica coffee worth Rp 1.56 billion was officially exported to Bangkok, Thailand, on Monday (10/13), affirming Indonesia’s position as a leading global coffee producer. The export took place from Mukuvoka Village, Bajawa District, Ngada Regency, East Nusa Tenggara.

Farmers and young entrepreneurs from PT Rumah Kopi Bajawa and the Ekoheto Sejahtera Coffee Producers Cooperative revealed that Bajawa coffee is known as one of Indonesia’s best coffees, with distinctive flavors of pear, chocolate, and fruity notes like orange and apple. They emphasized the importance of farmer regeneration and multi-stakeholder mentoring to maintain the sustainability of the coffee industry in Flores.

The Minister of Agriculture, Andi Amran Sulaiman, appreciated the collaboration between IPB University and Astra in helping local farmers penetrate the global market. He stated that this export demonstrates the transformation of Indonesian agriculture based on downstreaming and empowering farmers to become key players in the global value chain.

The Acting Director General of Plantations, Abdul Roni Angkat, stated that the Bajawa coffee export partnership model supports the Ministry of Agriculture’s strategy of strengthening farmer corporatization through cooperatives and farmer-owned enterprises. With strong institutions, farmers have better bargaining power and access to financing, enabling them to achieve sustainable exports.

“The success of Bajawa coffee exports is expected to serve as a model for replication for other agricultural commodities. This collaboration between universities, the private sector, and the government proves that with the right technology, institutional support, and empowerment, village farmers can compete in the global market. We want our farmers to become global players, not just spectators,” Roni concluded.

This export program is the result of a collaboration between IPB University through the Directorate of Agromaritime Community Development and PT Astra International Tbk under the Astra Prosperous Village (DSA) and One Village One CEO (OVOC) programs. The entire business process is run by village youth, with mentoring provided to over 250 farmers in six Bajawa coffee-producing villages.

The Ngada Regency Government expressed its appreciation and support for this multi-stakeholder collaboration. “The regional government cannot work alone. Thank you to IPB, Astra, and the Ministry of Villages for bringing Bajawa coffee to the world,” said Bernadinus Dhey Ngebu, Deputy Regent of Ngada.
