Indonesian Batik Export Increase In Q1 2025

Indonesia Batik Export

KBRN, Magelang: The value of Indonesian batik exports to several countries worldwide increased by 76.2 percent in the first quarter of 2025 compared to 2024. In the first quarter of 2025, the value of batik exports reached US$7.63 million, or approximately Rp125 billion.

This was stated by the Assistant Deputy for Human Resources Development for Small and Medium Enterprises at the Ministry of MSMEs, Rhenady Purnomo, at the opening of the Magelang Batik Festival at Magelang City Square on Wednesday (October 22, 2025). “The Indonesian batik industry is showing positive signs,” said Rhenaldy.

Rhenaldy hopes the Magelang Batik Festival can become an annual event and serve as a bridge for batik entrepreneurs to access the international market. He stated that batik artisan centers in Central and East Java provinces are exporters of batik to several countries in America, Europe, and Asia.

He noted that Central Java Province boasts 2,001 batik centers, spread across 11 cities and regencies. Meanwhile, East Java boasts 62 batik artisan centers.

He added that Magelang boasts some of the finest batik in Indonesia, with its diverse motifs and diverse traditions that have become symbols of regional identity. Typical motifs include stupas, honeycomb flowers, broken coffee, a million flowers, and flora and fauna.

“These batik motifs are proof that Magelang batik is not only beautiful to look at. It is also a work of art, tells a story, and is full of meaning,” he said.

The Economic Value of Batik

Meanwhile, the Regional Secretary of Central Java Province, Sumarno, stated that batik also has economic value that can be developed through creativity and innovation. “Hopefully, with the development of MSMEs, it will not only improve the welfare of MSMEs themselves, but also help them grow and reduce unemployment and alleviate poverty,” he said.

On that occasion, Sumarno also hoped that batik MSMEs in Central Java would take advantage of government facilities related to the People’s Business Credit (KUR). He also urged batik artisans not to be tempted by online loans (pinjol).
