The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) officially launched the first export of coconut shell charcoal from the Riau Islands Province to Tianjin, China, on Tuesday afternoon (February 10, 2026).
This export launch marks the first step in a major collaboration to encourage regional MSME products to penetrate the international market.
The export activity is the result of a collaboration between the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Indragiri Hilir Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Batam Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the Riau Islands Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
A representative from the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) explained that this export program received the full support of the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Anindya Novyan Bakrie, as it was deemed capable of stimulating the economic wheels of MSMEs in the regions.
“Thank God, today we have launched the first export of coconut shell charcoal. This collaboration is excellent because this program is fully supported by the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Anindya Novyan Bakrie, to stimulate MSMEs in the regions,” said the Deputy Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Frits Novianto Suhendar.
For the initial phase, the agreed export contract reaches 36,000 tons per year. In detail, this export demand is equivalent to approximately 125 containers per month.
“The amount is very large. Around 36,000 tons per year, or approximately 125 containers per month. This is a very promising need for our MSMEs,” he added.
This initial export is destined for Tianjin, China. In addition to coconut shell charcoal, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is also preparing to export other coconut derivative products, namely coconut fiber.
This export program involves dozens of MSMEs in Indragiri Hilir Regency, spread across four sub-districts. The economic activity generated is felt not only by coconut entrepreneurs but also by other sectors such as transportation, ports, and stevedoring workers.
“There are dozens of MSMEs involved. The domino effect of this export is enormous, from tracking, forwarding, ports, to TKBM workers, everyone is involved,” he said.
Currently, the main raw materials still come from Indragiri Hilir Regency, while the export process is carried out through Batam Port, as it is the closest port serving the export route.
With the commencement of this initial export, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) is optimistic that coconut-based MSME products from Sumatra and the Riau Islands can further develop and compete in the global market.
“This export proves that regional MSME products possess the quality and competitiveness to enter the international market. The Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) continues to encourage collaborations like this so that local potential can be elevated and provide broader economic benefits,” said Frits.
According to him, the export contract of 36,000 tons per year is a highly strategic achievement.
“This figure speaks not only to export volume, but also to the creation of jobs, increased community welfare, and the growth of a sustainable business ecosystem,” he said.
