What started in a home kitchen during the Covid-19 pandemic in 2020 has become a simple herbal concoction, a health product shipped throughout Indonesia and even internationally.

The herbal drink brand Glaranadi stemmed from the experiences of its founder, Junita Riany, who was experiencing health problems such as insomnia, inflammation, and emotional instability.

Initially, Junita only tried making natural soap and skincare products from herbal ingredients. However, her health conditions prompted her to create a drink made from chamomile, lavender, and spearmint. The concoction proved to have a calming effect and helped her sleep better. Based on this experience, she decided to sell herbal products in tea bags.

“I started with a personal need. At the time, I was experiencing inflammation and difficulty sleeping, so I created a herbal drink using the same ingredients as my skincare products. It turned out to be a good fit for me, and in fact, the drink was more popular than the skincare products,” she said in a live interview at the production house in Tangerang on Wednesday (February 4, 2026).

From just five product variants at the beginning, Glaranadi now has more than 100 SKUs, ranging from herbal drinks, green and black teas, to healthy food products like peanut butter and almond butter. Its flagship products include spearmint and matcha, which are sought after by young consumers to treat hormonal acne and improve sleep quality.

Junita develops her products based on direct interactions with buyers. She actively responds to customer messages on the Shopee platform, listening to their concerns for insights, and then adjusting product formulations accordingly.

“Many customers complain about insomnia, hormonal acne, and anxiety. From there, I learn about their needs and develop products accordingly,” she said.

This business didn’t take off immediately. Initially, sales only sold two to three packs per week. Junita packaged the product herself, taught herself advertising, and began marketing it through e-commerce. Sales surged during the pandemic, when people sought health drinks to boost their immune systems.

Glaranadi now sells around 7,000-8,000 products per month, with its largest market in Indonesia and customers shipping to Singapore and Malaysia. Most of its raw materials come from local farmers in Java and Cirebon.

Amidst consumer confidence in health products, Junita is also preparing legal steps by gradually obtaining BPOM certification for flagship products.

“In health products, trust is key. This year, we’re starting to obtain BPOM certification for our top products to give consumers a greater sense of security,” said Junita.

For Junita, Glaranadi is more than just a herbal drink business, but a journey to improve the quality of life through easy-to-consume natural products. The brand’s name philosophy reflects this heartfelt purpose.

“We want this product to help people have a better quality of life, so they have the energy and space to pursue their dreams,” she said.

From a small experiment during the pandemic to a product shipped throughout Indonesia and internationally, Junita Riany’s story demonstrates that a business can grow from personal experience, perseverance, and the courage to listen to consumer needs.
