Rattan Furniture Export to Spain

Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (UMKM) Maman Abdurrahman released the export of a 40-foot container containing rattan furniture products worth 12,612 US dollars from the Trangsan Manunggal Jaya Cooperative to Spain. This export release is part of efforts to strengthen the Joint Production House (RPB) program as a strategy to encourage MSMEs to move up in class and become global market oriented.

The Minister of MSMEs emphasized the importance of maintaining the continuity of rattan exports from Sukoharjo. According to him, guaranteed supply of raw materials, on time delivery and consistent product quality are the keys so that exports can take place regularly and sustainably. Maman conveyed this during export release activities in Sukoharjo Regency, Central Java, Thursday, December 18 2025.

Export release activities continued with the inauguration of the Rattan Commodity RPB in Sukoharjo. Based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS), Indonesia produces around 1.7 million rods or the equivalent of 15,000 tons of rattan in 2024, which makes Indonesia a supplier of around 80 percent of the world’s rattan needs. This great potential is deemed to need to be strengthened through the development of integrated and modern joint production facilities.

Trangsan Village, Gatak District, Sukoharjo, was designated as the location for the Rattan Commodity RPB. This region has been known as a center for the rattan craft and furniture industry for more than eight decades. Currently, around 220 heads of families work as rattan craftsmen and employ approximately 5,000 workers, making it one of the oldest rattan production centers in Central Java.

“This inauguration marks RPB’s readiness to develop the rattan business in a more structured manner. Synergy and collaboration is needed from various parties so that the rattan business ecosystem can grow and develop sustainably,” said Maman.

RPB Sukoharjo was presented to encourage rattan MSMEs to move up in class by increasing production capacity, quality standardization, process efficiency, strengthening design and innovation, and expanding market access. This facility is expected to become a space for collaboration between craftsmen, assistants and business partners in building a stronger rattan value chain.

Apart from that, the government is also developing a Work-Intensive People’s Business Credit (KUR) program in the form of production equipment support to increase the capacity and quality of MSME products. This financing scheme can be utilized by rattan business actors, including the Trangsan Manunggal Jaya Cooperative, to strengthen competitiveness in the export market.

The Minister of MSMEs appreciates the support of the Sukoharjo Regency Government and encourages ongoing supervision and assistance so that RPB operations run optimally and provide real benefits for the community. He hopes that the Sukoharjo Rattan Commodity RPB can become a pilot project for the development of similar facilities in various regions in Indonesia.

On the same occasion, Deputy Regent of Sukoharjo Eko Sapto Purnomo welcomed the collaboration with the Ministry of MSMEs through the establishment of the Rattan Commodity RPB. The regional government stated its commitment to supporting cooperatives and craftsmen through providing infrastructure, training and business assistance.

“If today we can export to Spain, in the future there will be opportunities to penetrate other European markets and other potential countries. Hopefully this RPB can be adapted to other business clusters and prove that Sukoharjo MSMEs are capable of moving up in class,” said Eko.
