KBRN, Jakarta: The Indonesian Embassy in Cairo has welcomed the initiative of Egyptian businesses to distribute Indonesian processed food, seasonings, and spices in supermarkets across Egypt.

This statement was delivered by the Embassy’s Trade Attaché, M. Syahran Bhakti, during a meeting with Ziyad Mubarak, a representative of Tredco Passap, a food and beverage company, at the embassy’s product display hall in Cairo, as reported by antaranews.com.

In an official statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday, June 24, 2025, Syahran expressed hope that the sale of Indonesian goods in Egyptian supermarkets would serve as a platform to introduce and promote Indonesian products, particularly those from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to local communities and surrounding regions.

The Embassy’s Economic Coordinator Abdul Gafur noted that interest from Egyptian businesses offers a valuable opportunity for Indonesian producers and SMEs to expand their market reach in Egypt.

“This will also make it easier for members of the Indonesian diaspora to access their favorite products, and opens the door for collaborative marketing with Indonesia’s 20,000-strong diaspora in Egypt,” Abdul added.

Speaking on behalf of Tredco Passap, Ziyad Mubarak highlighted strong market potential for Indonesian products in Egypt, citing the company’s partnership with Fathallah Market, which operates 95 branches across the country.

He also noted the company’s existing partnerships supplying premium grocery chains in Egypt. “We plan to import a full container of cooking spices produced by Mamasuka and market them through our partner supermarkets in Egypt. We’ll initiate business discussions with Mamasuka’s export division and other Indonesian spice producers,” Mubarak said.

The Embassy’s Trade Attaché also reported growing demand for Indonesian food, instant seasonings, and spices in Egypt, based on data from Indonesia’s Central Bureau of Statistics (BPS). From January to April 2025, total bilateral trade between Indonesia and Egypt reached USD 690 million, a 45.53 percent increase from USD 474 million in the same period of 2024.

Indonesia’s exports to Egypt totaled USD 545 million, marking a 33.60 percent rise from USD 408 million in the previous year.

Egyptian import data from March 2025 show significant growth in several Indonesian agricultural exports: coconut and legumes reached USD 1.9 million (up 259 percent), cooking spices USD 454,000 (up 33 percent), frozen fish USD 345,000 (up 126 percent), nutmeg and cardamom USD 524,000 (up 969 percent), and coconut oil USD 11.68 million (up 46 percent).
