A total of 95,400 palm oil seeds from South Sumatra Province (Sumsel) managed to penetrate the global market with the aim of exporting to Peru. Delivery was made via the Palembang Sultan Mahmud Badaruddin International Airport (SMB) II Service Unit on Sunday (18/1/2026).

Head of the South Sumatra Quarantine Center, Sri Endah Ekandari, said that all seeds had undergone inspection and certification according to regulations before being sent to their destination countries.

“The inspection was carried out to ensure that the seeds were free from the Quarantine Plant Pest Organism (OPTK) Marasmius sp., which is a requirement for the Peruvian Quarantine Authority,” he said in a written statement, Friday (23/1/2026)

The inspection process includes document verification, physical checks, and seed health testing based on plant quarantine standards. Apart from that, exported palm oil seeds are also equipped with an import permit from the Peruvian authorities.

Endah emphasized that fulfilling the technical requirements of the destination country is the key to maintaining export sustainability and international market confidence in the quality of products from South Sumatra. “The South Sumatra Quarantine ensures that every export commodity, including palm oil seeds, meets the plant health requirements of the destination country,” he explained. Meanwhile, based on data from the South Sumatra Plantation Service in 2022, the number of oil palm seed producers in the region reached 43 producers.

This number is spread across several city districts, including Palembang 1 producer, Banyuasin 16 producers, Musi Rawas 4 producers, Musi Banyuasin 5 producers, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency 7 producers, and Lubuk Linggau 3 producers, as well as several other areas.
