Snacks products are the largest contributor to the export value of micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in Malang City. As many as 95 MSMEs from Malang City have succeeded in penetrating foreign markets.
The Department of Cooperatives, Industry and Trade (Diskopindag) recorded that of the total number of MSMEs that have succeeded in penetrating the global market by 2025, the majority come from the chips processing sector.
Head of the Malang City Cooperative and Trade Office, Eko Sri Yuliadi, said that his party recorded that as many as 95 MSMEs had succeeded in exporting their products abroad.
Of that amount, various chips, including tempeh chips, are the dominant commodity marketed in a number of countries. Such as the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia, and New Zealand.
“The products we have exported are various, there are crafts, food such as chips. The most requested are various chip products, such as tempeh chips,” said Eko to journalists.
When combined with other MSME commodities, the export value of products from Malang City reaches around IDR 100 billion. This achievement is optimistic capital for the Malang City Government to encourage MSMEs to advance to class in 2026.
To achieve this target, Diskopindag will strengthen the mentoring patterns that have previously been carried out.
In 2026, the scope of assistance will be expanded with one accompanying team assisting 50 to 100 MSMEs.
“The assistance will be more detailed, starting from product packaging, marketing, to export readiness,” said Eko.
This strengthening step was taken because the achievements of MSMEs in upgrading to class in 2025 have not met expectations. From the target set, only around 100 MSMEs have succeeded in advancing to class.
Apart from that, Diskopindag will also maximize the role of export clinics to expand overseas markets.
With existing cooperation with a number of countries, the government is targeting the number of MSMEs capable of penetrating the export market to increase by 50 percent by 2026.
“The target is that by 2026 MSME exports can increase by 50 percent. Export clinics will be maximized because the market is open and we have cooperation with foreign countries,” he concluded.
