Indonesian Frozen Durian Export

The Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) noted that the first export of frozen durian from Indonesia had successfully penetrated the Chinese market with a value of US$123.84 thousand or the equivalent of IDR 2.08 billion.

Meanwhile, 23 tons of frozen durian produced by PT Amerta Nadi Agro Cemerlang from Central Sulawesi arrived at Qinzhou Port, China, on Tuesday (6/1/2026).

Indonesian Trade Attaché in Beijing Budi Hansyah said that the successful export of frozen durian was proof of the acceptance of Indonesian horticultural quality standards in the global market, as well as strengthening Indonesia’s position as a supplier of high quality horticultural products in the international market.

“This direct export shows Indonesia’s commitment to strengthening its position in the global market. The frozen durians sent have met various standards set by Chinese authorities ranging from food safety, plant health, to product quality requirements,” said Budi.

Budi added that the entry of Indonesian frozen durian into the Bamboo Curtain country’s market had received approval from the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) and was processed in accordance with customs regulations and through quarantine supervision in force in China. “This confirms the Chinese authorities’ trust in the quarantine system and quality assurance of Indonesian agricultural products,” he explained.

The frozen durian from Indonesia will then be processed into various value-added products, such as cut shelled durian, frozen durian flesh, dried durian, freeze dried durian, and even durian paste for distribution to various regions in China. Furthermore, Budi said that the Ministry of Trade continues to encourage national business actors to develop value-added processed products, in line with the high interest of the Chinese market in variants such as dried durian and durian paste to increase the competitiveness of Indonesian products in the global market.

Apart from that, he continued, the Ministry of Trade will also continue to facilitate promotion and strengthening of business networks so that more and more superior Indonesian products are able to compete in the Chinese market. Budi stated that the Ministry of Trade was open to discussing, sharing information and connecting business actors, while inviting Chinese partners to work together with Indonesia to build strong relations and increase the value of trade between the two countries. According to Budi, the presence of Indonesian frozen durian in the Chinese market also supports the development of the China-Asean Fruit Trade Center located in Qinzhou. This port is Southeast Asia’s main logistics node, supported by fast customs services and integrated inspection and testing facilities.

According to him, the infrastructure support of Qinzhou Port, bonded areas, as well as sea and freight logistics networks that reach China’s inland areas are able to strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia’s value-added horticultural products. “Strengthening exports through the Qinzhou port not only strengthens Indonesia’s position as one of the suppliers of horticultural products from Southeast Asia, but also opens up opportunities for market expansion to various strategic regions in China,” he said. For your information, Qinzhou Port is the international gateway for the New West Land-Sea Corridor which by 2025 will operate 44 shipping routes to Asean countries.

In 2026, with the opening of the Pinglu Canal project, this port is projected to become the most strategic sea route for China’s southwest region and has the potential to reduce logistics costs for agricultural products from Indonesia and ASEAN by up to 30%. Meanwhile, in January-November 2025, total trade between Indonesia and China was recorded at US$138.34 billion or grew 12.52% annually. The Ministry of Trade noted that Indonesia’s exports to China in that period reached US$60.30 billion, while total trade between the two countries in 2024 was recorded at US$136.59 billion.
